Enlivened cityscapes with dynamic spaces that are more attuned to public engagement has come into greater focus at the ground level of city towers. Skylines and the buildings that occupy them no doubt capture our imaginations, but the once closed and private lobbies of these soaring skyscrapers are opening up at street level to the people who traverse them. The result being vibrant, open, mixed use areas filled with bars and cafes, restaurants, playgrounds and retailers available to the tenants and for the public to enjoy.

The QV1 Plaza in Perth’s CBD, designed by Harry Seidler and completed in 1991 was ahead of its’ time in this regard. The tower was always a ‘humanist building’ with a public portion, which has recently seen a significant redevelopment setting the benchmark for quality amenities. The ample open and covered spaces invites people into the bustling hub to grab a quick coffee or to relax and spend some time over salted caramel doughnuts.

Set in Perth’s corporate West End, the refined look of Cooling Brothers VetroStax Frameless Stacking Door System was selected as the perfect solution to compliment this new stylish precinct. It was also the only system available capable of meeting the whopping 4m height requirement – making the shopfronts at the new plaza the tallest frameless stacking doors in Australia!

The flexibility of the VetroStax system allows tenants to configure the shopfront as fully or partially enclosed, or completely open.

Cooling Brothers worked closely with the engineers to find an optimal solution to suit the high wind and design load. Custom manufactured glass panels and hardware was required for the 25.52mm toughened laminated glass, each panel weighing in at just under 200kg. Each tenancy also has double door panels with a weight of 250kg each. The installation of these hefty panels required a plant lifter with custom made rails and rollers. Additionally a frameless glass door track was installed over a 30m length with angle changes at +/-2mm level to ensure efficient rolling of the doors.

The VetroStax panels at QV1 Plaza Redevelopment are 25.52mm toughened laminate, at 4m in height each panel is 200kg – with no compropmise on ease of operation.

VetroStax Frameless Stacking Doors is an elegant, water resistant, glass wall solution suited to both commercial and residential applications, providing the option to effortlessly partition an area when required. Engineered with a top hung design and available in a range of versatile stacking configurations, Cooling Brothers can supply and install VetroStax in the Perth metropolitan area. Alternatively, the entire kit is available with all hardware supplied to your preferred installer interstate.
