What do you get when an art gallery meets a residential home? For renowned architect Billy Kavellaris of Kavellaris Urban Design it means an extraordinary design that sits in a league of its own. JARtB House captures your attention instantly with its Neo Baroque façade and 7m cantilevered glass shard, abandoning the notion that art and architecture are separate.

Art plays a central theme for the numerous functions and spaces of JARtB House. It controls how aspects of privacy, translucency and light are interpreted and expressed through the lens of art. The saying goes that form follows function, but art has now established itself as the function, removing itself from the usual usage as decoration within buildings. JARtB House stands proudly as a building where art isn’t ornamentation but serves a purpose and is integral to the function of the home. The double height spaces, interlocking volumes and visual links are all connected and informed through art.

Cooling Brother’s was delighted when approached by KUD to take on this project that would form an integral part of the design. Our team worked closely with Billy to bring his vison and artwork to life as he intended it. The striking façade showcases PichiAvo’s exploration of Urban Mythology printed using our DigiGlass interlayers. By using our DigiGlass interlayers we were able to achieve the vibrancy and opacity strived for. The interlayer is encapsulated within a custom laminate of glass, so it can easily withstand the wear and tear of the weather. Printed with 1440dpi precision to transpose the liveliness and boldness of the colours with accuracy. The final result is a stunning façade that refines translucency and light.

From the outside the creative artwork is visually captivating, internally the natural light filtered through the soft interlayers of the DigiGlass makeup creates a beautiful illumination and throws the images gently across the room in this rare statement of art and architecture. An enviable work of art that is accessible both publicly and privately.

At night the glass is transformed into a translucent gallery, with the art becoming illuminated through internal lighting. This elevates an already breathtaking view to another level of artistry bringing theatrical drama to the façade effectively transforming the glass shard into a lantern which is only possible through the printed DigiGlass.

This home generates a serious feeling of wonder both inside and out. From its Italian marble-clad bathrooms to the gallery length concrete hallways and expansive living room – every inch of this home has been thoroughly thought out, here at Cooling Brothers we could not be more excited to see our DigiGlass in a home that celebrates the bespoke in such a unique way.

For the Cooling Brothers team, it was great to be involved in another project that puts creativity and glass at the forefront of conversation and architecture. With the new Cooling Brothers Glass Melbourne processing facility in Epping we will continue to deliver our high quality service even more efficiently for your next project.
